Carpinteria Creek Mouth
The Carpinteria Creek Mouth restoration project is located at the mouth of the creek at Carpinteria State Beach, on State Parks property. The goal of the project is to increase the habitat and ecological value of the mouth of Carpinteria Creek by removing non-native flora and the planting of native flora along the banks. The project will also allow for volunteers and visitors of the Carpinteria State Beach to learn about habitat restoration and the importance of the Carpinteria Creek Watershed.

Creek Mouth Project Complete
The final volunteer planting event on Sunday December 4th was a great success. With the help of 14 volunteers we planted and watered over 100 additional plants at the site. These additional plants included Arroyo Willows, Coast Golden Bush, Salt Grass, and Wolly Seablite. Below are a few photos from the December 4th event. SCHR would like to extend a big thank you to our project partners, California State Parks, and Channel Islands Restoration for all their hard work along the way. We additionally would like to thank all of the volunteers that have come out to help over the course of the project and the project funder, The Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project.

Creek Mouth Before and After
The plants at the creek mouth are doing great! We went out and replicated a few of our pre-project photos sites. The site is full of poppy and sunflower blooms. We caught a house finch busily feeding on the sunflower seeds.

Creek Mouth Restoration Project Update
The Carpinteria Creek Mouth is full of growth. The native plants that were planted only a few months ago are showing significant growth. The Coast Sunflowers are currently in bloom and bringing beautiful color to the site. Below are some photos of the sites progress. The project will require some maintenance through the summer, in the form of weeding and watering to insure that the native plants get established. Thank you, to all of the volunteers that have helped with the project. We hope to see you Saturday, May 14th, for our next restoration work day, and for the Carpinteria Creek Watershed Coalition's 10 year celebration.
